May Crowning of Mary at St. Edward's

St. Edward School’s May and June calendars are packed with special activities. Parents, please check the school calendar and your emails regularly to make sure you have the latest information.
Thank you to Mrs. Imperato for organizing the Barnes and Noble Fundraiser that took place last week. The band did an outstanding job performing for our happy book shoppers! Barnes and Noble has a copy of the summer reading list. If you shop there, please mention St. Edward the Confessor School and we will receive credit.
The Spring Art and Music Show “A Tribute to Disney” was a wonderful showcase of our student’s talents! The band, under the direction of Mr. John Rienzi, kicked off the evening. Both the beginner band and the experienced band were exceptional. The band was followed by the students in grades K, 1, and 2 who made us all smile with their rendition of the “Mickey Mouse Club”. The musical part of the evening concluded with our 3, 4 and 5th grade chorus singing more of Disney‘s toe tapping music. Mr. DeBrino always does a wonderful job with our chorus. Some of our students art work was displayed in the Holy Family Room. The pieces on display were creative and inspiring. Special thanks to Mr. DeBrino, Mr. Rienzi, and Ms. Makuh for their hard work and dedication to the arts!
Saturday’s Dedication and Blessing of the Commemorative Brick Walk Way truly celebrated the spirit of St. Edward School. Despite the rain, a large crowd gathered for the dedication and reception, which was moved inside the Holy Family Room. Thank you once again to Mrs. Alicia Vasile for making this all possible. Thank you also to the Boy Scouts from Troop 205 for raising the flag and leading the Pledge of Allegiance; Ashley Morris ’06 for leading us in the National Anthem; Deacon Jim and Mrs. Peggy Murphy, Mrs. Anne Schaefer, and Sr. Madeline Moore, RSM, for cutting the ceremonial ribbons; and Mrs. Allison Morris and Mr. Frank Vasile and family for the many ways you assisted along the way and on Saturday!
The Brian Murphy Memorial Tree - During Hurricane Sandy, a tree dedicated to the memory of Brian Murphy by the Class of 1994 was uprooted. At Saturday’s festivities, a new tree was blessed and dedicated by Fr. Tom. Thank you to Mr. Taggart for arranging for the new tree and having the original plaque cleaned.
PASE elections will take place on Monday, May 20 from 9:00 am - 10:00 am and from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm in the Faculty Lounge. There is no PASE meeting scheduled for May.
Beauty and the Beast will be performed by the Monarch Players this weekend. Show times are Friday, May 24 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, May 25 at 1:00 pm. Please wear your school uniforms and meet at Variety pre-school at 9:30 am. The parade begins at 10:00 am.
Zumba Night, led by Mrs. Heather Funk, will take place on May 30th from 7:00 - 9:00 pm in St. Edward’s gymnasium. Wear comfortable clothes. Live DJ. Cost is $20 per person. Please make checks payable to PASE and send to the attention of Mrs. Stacey Murphy. Thank you Mrs. Funk and Mrs. Murphy for organizing this fun and healthy event! For more information see below.
The Father-Daughter Dance will take place on Saturday, June 1 at 6 pm. It will be an evening of fun, music, dancing and dinner for students and their father figures! Cost is $10 per person. Thanks to PASE and Mrs. Ginamarie Palmieri-Marcik for organizing this special event. More details can be found below under PASE.
Don’t forget that during May, ice-cream will be sold in the cafeteria during lunchtime. Ice-cream is $2 each. This 8th grade fundraiser helps offset costs of the annual graduation dance. THANK YOU to all those who have supported these weekly sales!
Have you ordered your lunch for field day? Orders were due to Mrs. Kim Anzalone by May 17th. If you haven’t ordered, please return the form immediately to her attention! Please remember to return your field day permission slips! Thanks for your cooperation!

Dear Parents:
We have so much to look ahead to in the coming weeks of May – our Spring Arts & Music Festival, Field Days, the Dedication and Blessing of St. Edward’s Commemorative Walkway, Drama Club’s performances of “Beauty & The Beast, Jr.”, and St. Edward’s participation in Syosset’s Memorial Day Parade among others. Please check the school website for more specific information.
Mrs. Sanders and I are busy planning for the coming school year and we are filled with much enthusiasm. So much has been accomplished this year with our faculty and students. Great effort was made to
- fully implement the Common Core curriculum;
- assure that our teachers received ongoing professional training;
- continue bringing students up to state and diocesan standards;
- invigorate the curriculum and make it more rigorous;
- increase the use of technology to enrich academics in our classrooms;
- provide opportunities for our children to learn outside of a classroom setting;
- offer new extracurricular opportunities; and certainly;
- enhance our nurturing, faith-filled Catholic environment and our relationship with our Parish.
Our goal is to help our students be high-school, college, career, and life ready!
Mrs. Sanders and I have spent a considerable amount of time this year observing, evaluating, and working with our faculty. I am very impressed by the dedication and capabilities of the teaching staff at St. Edward School. I am pleased to announce the tentative line up of faculty assignments for the 2013-2014 school year with the understanding that it is subject to change.
