As many of our fellow parishioners and friends are aware, on September 10, 1992 our son Brian, at the age of twelve became another victim to cancer. At the time of his death Brian was in the 6th grade at St. Edwards, a school he enormously enjoyed and one in which the teachers and students, literally and figuratively walked Brian’s journey with him. On June 17, 1992 the News reported “the kids at St. Edward Confessor in Syosset have been supportive of their stricken schoolmate, and yesterday – the day before Brian was to undergo an operation – students from kindergarten through eight grade marched through the neighborhood with banners asking people to donate to cancer research. A typical banner read; Help the people who are helping Brian.”
In Brian’s memory a memorial fund was established for the purpose of assisting families, who due to a financial hardship are unable to continue to pay school tuition. Over the years the fund has afforded parents an opportunity to continue their child’s education at St Edward’s School. Decisions as to who receives financial assistance are private among the recipient family, school principal, and Fr. Tom. There is no obligation to repay the funds; however, when possible families have chosen to do so. Any support you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Whether you are able to attend Brian’s Fundraiser or make a contribution, we would request your prayers for successful fundraising and for families forced to remove their child from St. Edward’s School due to financial difficulties.
In advance, in Brian’s memory, and with our deepest fondness we would like to thank you for your continued support and prayers.
