What is Resource Room
Resource Room is where a variety of services are given to students with an I.E.S.P. (Individualized Educational Service Program). The student's individual needs are met in the least restrictive environment. Small groups of no more than five students meet as per their I.E.S.P. and work on their specific goals. In this small classroom setting many different and varied approaches are used to help the student better understand the concepts and prepare for their tests. Work is broken down into smaller components and parts, using highlighting, Venn diagrams, outlining, flash cards, mnemonics, hands-on activities, and many other approaches. Study skills are constantly taught enabling the student to better prepare for their class work and tests. Positive reinforcement and praise are used continually, as well as building up their self-esteem. Collaboration with all the students' teachers is done on a regular basis. in order to best serve their needs.
Questions about Special Education Services should be addressed to our school psychologist Mrs. Serpico.
